Matthew Schaffer (He/Him)
Matthew is currently pursuing his master's degree in mental health counseling at Hunter College. He firmly believes that establishing a strong therapeutic relationship is paramount to the success of his clients. His goal is to cultivate a safe, warm, and accepting environment where clients can feel comfortable and freely express themselves. Matthew perceives therapy as a powerful tool for individuals to gain insight into their life patterns and take actionable steps towards change. Guided by a person-centered orientation, he draws upon cognitive-behavioral, existential, and mindfulness-based approaches to assist clients in finding purpose and initiating positive change. Matthew has worked with adolescents, adults, and young individuals dealing with various challenges including depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, and low self-worth.
